Story Boards of Life

“Gratitude for the gift of life is the primary wellspring of all religions, the hallmark of the mystic, the source of all true art.” ~ Joanna Macy & Norbert Gahbler

Today is the 2nd anniversary of my mom’s passing and later this month on the 23rd will be the 2nd anniversary of my dad’s passing. Even before their March death’s two years ago, the third month of the year has never been one of my favorites – nope, not at all.

However, thanks to God and his goodness in bringing new life to our family, I am looking at March from here on out a little more bittersweetly. (with much more emphasis on sweetly!) On March 1st I became a first-time grandmother! Our son and his wife welcomed into this world their first offspring. The little missy arrived and we couldn’t be more thrilled at the new leaf on the family tree. Her middle name was given to her in honor of her great-grandmother, my mother who was a character – a fiesty, no-nonsense redhead, whose legacy we never want to forget. And her birthday was February 28  on a leap year as well, ninety-one years ago. If it hadn’t been for the extra day in February this year, their birthdays would have been one day apart.

Since the year my award-winning memoir was published our family has experienced new entry’s and exits just like every family experiences, but our loved ones always remain on the family tree. What makes each life unique is what happens in the chapters in between! And I look forward to seeing my granddaughters growth and development as her life story unfolds. It’s a new season for family stories.
