“Before the reward there must be labor. You plant before you harvest.” ~ Ralph Ransom
Have you been to your mailbox lately? March is here and you know what that means. Garden catalogs will be soon arriving. This year, for a group of twelve women, it also means a publication which started with a seed of an idea will soon be arriving.
One day about two years ago, I received an invitation to be a contributing writer and consult on a project for women who come from various Christian-faith backgrounds. I’m acquainted with a few of the ladies and others are complete strangers. After some soul searching, I consented to join in because I liked the mission of helping others by telling our personal stories.
My hard “ inner work” had already been done when I wrote my award-winning memoir, Gift of a Lifetime: Finding Fulfilling Things in the Unexpected. Rather than rehash what had already been told, my chapter encapsulates what my self-reflection through writing uncovered. It was both revealing and healing. However, for some of the other women toil and tears through self-examination and exploration was still ahead of them. Not a quick or easy task.
I greatly admire every one of the women who have had the courage to come forward with their narratives. They’ve delved deep into their hearts and shared their challenges in order to help others along in their journey. The proceeds from the project will be donated to a cause that each of the contributing writers came to an agreement on quickly. I’ll be revealing more about the publication over the next few weeks.
