“Think of all your experiences as a huge tapestry that can be laid out in whatever pattern you wish. Each day you add new thread to the weaving.” ~ Tony Robbins
Chance! Sew Steamboat is what brought us together. When I finally caught up with Lorrae and Lewis Moon of Yampa Valley Fiberworks last Sunday, they were in the midst of teaching a weaving class. Some of the participants were new to the craft and others had some experience.
As Lorrae helped her students with their loomwork, Lewis and I chatted about their business. It was apparent from our conversation that their love of the industry they make a living from is all encompassing. From the ranching lifestyle and raising sheep, to shearing, washing, sorting and carding to custom milling. Five hundred lbs or more of their own wool and fibers from other places are handled on a weekly basis. Teaching weaving is also in Lorrae’s repertoire of skills. To learn more about Yampa Valley Fiberworks, visit their website.
As delightful as can be, this enterprising couple and I are working on a thread of an idea. As soon it becomes tightly woven together, I will tell you more about it. In the meantime, here are a few photos from the weaving class.
P.S. The quilt in the background of the first large picture is being raffled off as a fundraiser for The Delectable Mountain Quilters Guild. The drawing will be held November 16, 2017 and the winner need not be present. If you are interested in taking a chance, contact me through firstname.lastname@example.org.
