Sowing Young Scribes
“I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day….What can make me feel this way?” ~ The Temptations
Remember that song from the musical archives? I sure do!
What a lift up I received a few days ago when out-of-the-blue I received correspondence from Jennifer, a Girl Scout trooper leader in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Several years ago I shared my award-winning memoir Gift of a Lifetime: Finding Fulfilling Things in the Unexpected with her troop #12622. Here are her words:
“Dear Sue,
I hope this email finds you well!
I’m not sure if you remember me or our troop of Girl Scouts you spoke to a few years back to help them earn their “Scribe” badge.
You left a lasting impression on these girls and we are so grateful for the time and incredible experience you gave us. The excerpt shared from your book was incredibly powerful and I see you have a new book as well! I’d love to order it – is Amazon the best way or shall we order directly through you?
My friend Sara and I now also have a troop of those girls’ younger sisters! We were wondering if you would consider meeting with these young girls (4th grade – 10 years old) sometime this spring if your schedule allows? They too would like to earn their “Scribe” badge. If you would consider meeting with this troop of six girls, we would be so grateful.”
To see pictures and learn more about the “One Day in the Life of a Writer” I had a few years back visit this blog called “Time with the Girl Scouts.”
What a mutually satisfying afternoon we had together, the Girl Scouts and me! Speaking for myself, the event has been stitched in my heart forever.
Thank you Jennifer! I’ll be in touch with you!
