Elder And Younger

Simple Wisdom

elder and younger

“There is a wisdom of the head, and… a wisdom of the heart.”  ~Charles Dickens

As I reflect on the story of Eva featured in the video posted on the previous blog called Stitchin’ a Mission, it occurred to me the elderly woman is sewn with the right stuff – a good heart, generous spirit, and a positive outlook on life. All these traits lead to a fulfilling life and aging well regardless of genetic predisposition for sickness or disease. Here is an article from the National Institute of Health about various aspects of staying healthy in the elder years.

Rather than someone of movie star status, I’d much rather have dinner with Eva. Her words in the video are probably just the beginning of her wisdom.  Whenever elderly people ask me to sit a spell and listen to their yarns, I take them up on it. We can learn a lot from seniors if we visit with an open heart, open mind and open ears. As Christina Barnes once said, “words are how we think, stories are how we link.”
