Prized Friendships
Use what talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.” ~ Henry Van Dyke
It can hardly be called a work of fine art, but that’s not the point of my patch of creativity I entered into the Routt County Fair. It’s more about effort, and what I became because of it. My attempt at quilting and embellishing blocks of fabric from the Sandy Gervais Collection “Best Friends” is about rediscovering a hobby from my years as a teenager.
Here is a peek at my quilted wall hanging which is about new beginnings and spending time with a sewing machine once again. I’ve combined basic quilting with mixed media. Bits of embrodiery thread, lace, yarn, twine, buttons, old jewelry, beads and more types of embellishment have been added to a fabric which tells a wonderful story of friendship.
I enjoyed this project from beginning to end even though it could never be considered an art quilt. I remind myself :
‘Where the spirit does not work with the hand there is no art.’ |
Absolutely adorable! Great job.
Thanks. Had fun with it.
