“Books are mirrors: you only see in them what you already have inside you.” – Carlos Ruiz Zafón
The other day I received a heartwarming letter from Leone in Australia. Tucked inside the envelope was a little notepad, pictured in the image. Here is what she said:
Do you have any idea how much joy it brings an author when they receive feedback from a reader? In this case, Leone’s “Mum” gave birth in 1917 to unexpected twins, just as my mother did in 1953. From the mirrored experience, an Australian acquaintance was made!
Hearing from readers is so powerfully important to an author because it means their written words have made an emotional connection with someone else. That’s what writing is all about!
And in this day and age of bookselling through e-commerce, a kinship can be made world-wide. I must write back!
Thank you, Leone, for taking time out of your day to communicate.
Your letter sent clear across the ocean arrived.
It’s envelope was a bit tattered and torn,
nevertheless, your meaningful note was intact and greatly appreciated.
Blessings back to you, Sue Batton Leonard
