Home Grown Stories

“Sometimes the best families are the ones God builds using unexpected pieces of our hearts.”  Melanie Shankle

I received a surprise email last week advising I was a finalist in a writing contest. I had forgotten I had submitted. The task for all who entered was to write about the House That Built Me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the other contestants stories. Each unique and heartfelt.

As I read the other tales I noticed the perimeter and descriptions of the abodes were rarely mentioned. What shone through each narrative were the relationships of love, caring and protection the homes afforded. To read each finalists story, follow this link. Each takes only a few minutes!

Home in the heart

The Fuller Center for Housing sponsored the writing contest. It’s founder, Millard Fuller, has one of the most meaningful life stories I have ever known. I am so very grateful to have met him personally several months before he passed away. I encourage you to read about this Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree.

I look forward to receiving the prize for the contest and will share information about it  in a future blog. See you back here on on Wednesday!
