Friendships Sown

The kiss of the sun for pardon, The song of the birds for mirth, One is nearer God’s heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth.Dorothy Frances Gurney (1858 – 1932)

A few weeks ago I visited a friend and her husband who I hadn’t seen in nearly ten years. Full of anticipation of seeing their kind faces, I didn’t quite know what to expect because she has a degenerative disease.

Since I last saw them they’ve moved to new place of residence far from where we sowed the beginnings of our friendship. I wondered if their home and gardens would be as charming as the home I previously associated them with.

As soon as I walked into their house, I felt the years between us disappear. It made me so happy to know despite her health challenges everything in her heart still goes toward making a beautiful haven for her family.

Ten years ago, I think she felt her life of planting flowers was over but her self-created gardens in her new residence are every bit as beautiful.

She lets herself be ruled by her nesting passions rather than her disabilities. Therefore, she’ll always be living among beauty.

without the help of professionals). Isn’t it lovely?

I’m so grateful for our visit. She and her husband exude warmth and hospitality and are a pleasure to be with.  Thank you my dear friends!
