Reflections 2018

First, Reflection: A Look Back on 2018

Although I enjoy looking back, I do consider myself more of a forward-thinking person. The year 2018 was one of the most difficult of my life. Becoming the primary caretaker of two elderly and suddenly-ill parents meant quickly relocating and all the adjustments and stresses that came with that.

Then, the unimaginable happened – both of their lives came to an end within 23 days of one another. Indeed, none of it was a cakewalk. But there were blessings in it – two people who had been married 70 years (and had been best friends for much longer) didn’t have to go on very long without one another. It would have been so difficult for Mom and Dad and for their family watching them go through it.

Although I’ve had curve balls pitched to me many times throughout my life, I’ve come to realize each one has made me stronger! I remind myself no one is exempt from challenges and hardships. It’s all part of being human.

In the first few blog postings in the New Year on, I’ll march forward fully placing my attention on what brought me JOY in 2018. Believe it or not despite a difficult year…JOY is in there!
