Community Healing – Sow The Heart: One Story at a Time
Community Citizen Diversity Connection Communication Concept

Community Healing

  • “Transformation in the world happens when people are healed and start investing in other people.”

~ Michael W. Smith

Some weeks ago I was talking to a pastor about the fulfilling lives of two people I will be honoring soon in a Celebration of Life Service. At some point the conversation turned to a different subject –  the malaise that exists in some communities across the country. We batted around ideas of what it takes to break out of a chain of behaviors and thinking to elicit real modification. We talked about how individuals knowledgeable in professional community development are real architects for change.

Then the discussion led to how churches and service organizations such as The Optimist Club, Kiwanis, the Lions Club and Rotary, which were so popular in my grandparents generation now struggle with membership. At one time they were the heart and soul of community!

Main Street America is a movement which is focused on bringing the “heart” back into historic main streets. What do you think about this concept? Are you aware of a community which has felt the impact of this organization?

Do you think our country has strayed too far from it’s founding principles? If you have something truthful, sincere and helpful to say about whether change could come from movement away from “self-centeredness” to “community-minded”  I’d like to hear from you . Post a comment to this blog.
