Answering a Call
“The shortest distance between two people is a story.” ― Patti Digh
A few weeks ago I received a phone call from a reporter for the Steamboat Today newspaper looking for information about the annual book contest sponsored by the Colorado Independent Publishers Association. She asked for the names of the 2016 EVVY award-winning authors from Steamboat.
Then she inquired about We Write Steamboat. What has been the purpose of the group? she asked. I told her we are a group whose mission is to foster independent publishing success. I went on to describe the kinds of things we’ve discussed at meetings. After I hung up, I thought, I could have summed it all up in six simple words “in helping others, we help ourselves.”
Today I share this article from Psychology Today which helps to explain the value of looking out for others. It’s a good article, however, I don’t fully subscribe to their new research indicating “volunteering is better for religious people.” In my opinion, serving others can benefit anyone!
