Let Our Hearts And Voices Sing Forever More

All Fired Up

  • Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life. ~ Buddha

Vermont is a magnificent State where I went to college and resided for nearly four decades. The other day I read a news story from Vermont that raised my spirits. Here’s what happened:

Ten years ago in the little hamlet of South Londonderry, The First Baptist Church was ravaged by fire. I wondered whether they’d rebuild since Vermont is a state known for having the lowest numbers of  churchgoers. To quote a Gallup poll, “The granola republic of Vermont is the least religious state in America, with just 22% of its population qualifying as “very religious.” I’ve often thought perhaps these independent-minded people from the Green Mountain State feel in no need of guidance from “higher ups.” But perhaps this an ill-conceived notion! They did rebuild the 176 year old church and the story is very interesting. The successful project came together thanks to interns from  Snowboarders and Skiers for Christ and old fashioned work bees of many contributing hands in the community.  Check out the full narrative.

On May 19th, 2018 the community dedicated the new building.   From the photos, it looks like the sanctuary was filled to capacity. The ediface will sit on the hill for many years to come to serve the spiritual needs of women and men who enter through their doors.

What wonderful good news!! Let hearts and voices sing out for their community!
