“Faith without works is as dead as a doornail.” ~ Millard Fuller
My award as a finalist in the writing contest I entered arrived the other day, and I couldn’t be more pleased. If you read Home Grown Stories posted a few weeks ago on SowtheHeart.com you’ll understand why.
One of the greatest priviledges of my lifetime was meeting Millard Fuller, the founder of Habitat of Humanity. His life story of becoming a millionaire at age 29 and giving it all away when his values went astray is a tale that will reverberate within me forever.
I felt awed to be sitting in the audience when he told a summation of his life at the First Congregational Church in Manchester, Vermont about eight years ago. Some four months before he suddenly passed away.
As a result of entering and being a finalist in a writing contest sponsored by the Fuller Center for Housing called The House That Built Me, I have acquired his prized book that was published after his death. It’s the full story and I can’t wait to start reading.
Thank you Fuller Center for Housing for the opportunity to tell my story through your writing contest!
