A Mother’s Lesson
How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you was*?” Satchel Paige (1906-1982)
When I look at this image of youth, I see my mother even though she’s in the later years of the eighth decade of her life. My dad recently declared “she’s still the young red-haired girl he married seventy years ago.” Her bold spirit is still so very evident!
My mom has never believed in following “what she ought to be doing at her age.” Accordingly, she and my dad have lived very differently than most 88 and 91 year old individuals do. Until now they’ve lived life independently, on a remote island happily tending home and gardens without any help.
From this, I’ve learned a very valuable lesson from my mother.
“Live your life, forget your age!”
Oh, how I hope her “Aging with G.R.A.C.E” attitude will never perish in the”renaissance years” of my life..
Cheers to you, Mom! I wholeheartedly admire your fortitude!
