“Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I learn whatever state I am in, therein to be content.” ~ Helen Keller
Imagine living in a world of darkness. Imagine hearing nothing but silence. The other evening I attended a workshop “Helen Keller – Overcoming Adversity” at a spiritual center Well for the Journey.I learned so much more than I ever knew about this woman who used her handicap as means to tap into her spiritual growth.
At the end of the evening our “take-aways” were discussed. What surprised, inspired or challenged you about what you learned about Helen Keller today?” The leader asked.
I spoke up and said the evenings discussion led me to wonder if Helen Keller would have been nearly the inspirational person she was had she been a seeing and hearing individual. Through her adversity did she find the capacity to be more deeply empathetic and more inspirational than she would have been otherwise? I asked. Another person spoke up and said “We are what we are, no matter what. Had Helen Keller been able to see and hear I think she would have become even more of a rock star!”
What do you think about that?
So much can be learned about Helen Keller’s strength and serenity of character despite all she faced in her lifetime through her quotes. Check out her wonderful words of wisdom.
