Today, I’d like to share with you on SowtheHeart.com about an annual community art project which is a collaborative effort between painters, writers and orators. This event is in honor of a woman who was at helm of the local writers group for a long, long time in the Colorado town where it’s held.
The long and short of it – local writers, youth and adult, pen a brief narrative or poetry about what they are seeing and feeling through their observations of paintings. The paintings, from which stories are told, are from an exhibit by the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition of Traditional Oils. To culminate the project, certain local personalities are asked to read the narratives at a celebration open to the whole community.
Every year I anxiously await reading what the participants have written. Many of the authors have helped shape my writing. Although I have not attended the live event since it was started four years ago, I imagine each orator puts their unique own spin on the voice they use to deliver the narrative to the audience.
You, too, can read the anthology and see the paintings of the Ekphrasis 2022 event.
This annual project is a fine example of how art has a way of hitting heartstrings in unique ways. When we see art, we all see it differently. I find that fascinating. Check it out!
