A Compassionate Heart
Today I’d like to give a big thumbs up to “Shealan,” author of this letter which was received by the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
I often frequent the website of The Children’s Hospital Foundation and read their social media. Seeing this letter made me think back to the correspondence and drawings I received in the hospital from my classmates after my “pioneering heart” surgery back in the early 1960s. The kindness was so memorable that I mention it in my memoir because I believe it helped with the healing process.
Parents, this summer if you hear the words “I’m bored” from your children, encourage them to write a short note or get well card to a child in your local hospital whose in need of a ray of sunshine in their day.
These kinds of random acts teach children kindness and compassion.
Shealan, you are a leader! Best Wishes.
