Fulfilling Work

On Day #1, November 1, 2014 at the start of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) I made a deal with myself. It went like this – “JUST TRY IT! GIVE FICTION WRITING A CHANCE.”   To seal the deal, I bargained “Give it thirty days. If  you aren’t enjoying the process,” I said to myself, “let it go.” I stuck with the rules of the challenge, and worked on my project every day. I didn’t demand from myself that I reach a certain word limit daily.

But, something happened and I kept writing beyond the end of the month. I began to fall in love, not just with the process of creating a fictional story but with the characters and their relationships. They began to teach me so much.

The story has come full circle. The manuscript is in it’s final rounds of evaluation and editing. And I wish to report happiness is indeed, an inside job!
