Educating the Heart
It’s a fulfilling day when an opportunity to learn something more about the art of writing comes along!
Last week I had the chance to attend a writers workshop with Walter Bargen, the first poet laureate of Missouri. We discussed elements which draw people into a poem (a creative form of story). The words must elicit an irresistable visual or memory, command attention, raise a question or cause conflict. Why? Because readers want to have their hearts stirred. If the poetry and prose strikes a chord within the reader it feeds something deep within the soul.
Aren’t those are some of the very same reasons we are drawn to certain people?
