This Easter Season I am filling a small part of each day throughout Lent with a creative activity, unlike any I have ever done before. Usually days leading up to Easter is filled with childhood memories, such as those that I shared in this audio chapter of my award-winning memoir Gift of a Lifetime: Finding Fulfilling Things in the Unexpected.
Our congregation was presented with a creative challenge for Lent and I decided to put my whole heart and soul into it for two reasons. The first being – As a writer, I felt the activity would help me see faith storytelling in a different light. And secondly, my creative energy had been lagging and I felt like dabbling.
Thank you Rev. Deb Lampton of the BAUMC for suggesting this activity which has motivated me to use a multi-medium approach to communicate a faith story. It has reawakened my creativity and expands me in a new way. I have felt safe in taking a bit of creative license because not all people take the words in the Bible literally. Our own life experiences and exposure to faith and spiritual matters shape they way we read and interpret things. So far, I’ve stayed on task with the project. I create it one day at a time. While I am waiting for Easter to arrive, I have 13 days to finish it up. Again, taking it one day at a time.
I am looking forward to the next few weeks – there are several things on my calendar which I know will be fun and bring me much personal fulfillment this month.
