Talk about good neighbors! I just read a news story about two churches in the town where my husband and I were married. They are making history by joining forces to save one from closing. A fascinating concept.
The Puffer United Methodist Church in Morrisville, Vermont lost it’s minister and has not rehired, so the neighboring pastor of the First Congregational Church has offered to take both churches under her wing. The Rev. Dr. Marisa Laviola has been at the helm of the Congregational Church for seven years.
The community is very supportive of the union. Both places of worship have been in existence since the early 1800s. Their philosophies are not so very different that they can’t find common ground, although they are not quite sure exactly what the new relationship will look like.
