Wellness: Pet Grief

“An animals eyes have the power to speak a great language.” ~ Martin Buber

Losing a pet can be very heartbreaking because they become part of the family. If you have ever been a pet owner, you understand how animals have special intuitive powers, and can sense how human beings are feeling. So although our pet companions can’t communicate verbally, the connection we make with our dogs and cats and other creatures can be deep.

This little lady pictured below is Vivian aka “Miss Vee.” She used go everywhere with her owner, Pat. Naturally, Pat  misses her sidekick. A Good Grief Pup-Pup!!!© was made especially for Pat as a gift from a friend as a way to remember Miss Vee and for something to hold onto in times of loneliness.

Every time a Good Grief Pup-Pup!!!© or Good Grief, Kitty!!!© goes out in a shipment a piece of my own heart is  stitched into it. Being a person who has lost a number of dogs and cats, it’s not easy when you miss a companion’s presence. These folk art creatures make great unexpected gifts from one friend to another.

Lucky was made for Nancy! Her golden retriever who was 18 years old is sorely missed. In his younger years, he was quite naughty. I’ll bet there were many times when Nancy said, “Good Grief, Pup-Pup!!! what are you up to now?”  Before he matured, he ended up you know where for chewing blankets, hats and all kinds of stuff. I incorporated a reminder of Lucky’s mischievousness on his backside.

And so as not to leave cat owners out of the loop, custom- stitched Good Grief Kitty!!!© has been made and sent to people who are missing their cat companions.

Such as little Kaily pictured at the top. Being the gorgeous kitty that Kaily was, when I created the GGK of her, I was inspired to incorporate some of that loveliness by embellishing the stuffed animal with pretty posies.

When Kaily’s owner received the token of folk art from a friend as a remembrance of her beloved cat, she emailed gushing, “I LOVE my GGK!!! She’s always nearby. Just seeing her fills me with warm feelings of love. Her whimsy cheers me up and she is comforting to cuddle softly or hold onto very tightly, as needed in my grief process.

These sample Good Grief, Pup-Pup!!!© and Good Grief, Kitty!!!© folk art animals can be custom-made for any one, young or old or for you and shipped to whomever you wish! For more information, please visit our Good Grief  Pets Portfolio.
