It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little — do what you can. ~Sydney Smith
I’m not so handy with thread and needle but, I can knit a stitch. The missions team at the United Methodist Church in Steamboat is providing layette sets for infants for UMCOR. I’ve joined in their efforts, and am enjoying doing my small part for the wee ones.
What I like about this project is the sweaters can be completed in a few evenings. Since I tend to be a multi-tasker, it’s a good craft to do at night when in front of the TV. The rectangle sweater pattern is easy for a beginning knitter. If you can knit and purl, those are the only stitches needed. Here are directions for the pattern. It may be knitted, crocheted or sewn with fabric.
It’s a small contribution I can make toward relief efforts of keeping newborns warmly wrapped and my heart’s earnestly in it!

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing other comfort and caring stories that also involve artistic expression and community compassion.
