Branching Out – Sow The Heart: One Story at a Time
Big Old Tree

Branching Out

Are you overflowing with gratefulness for food, family and friends who gathered around the Thanksgiving table? I know I am. Isn’t it nice to have a holiday where the focus is on the gift of just being together. Our family grows larger every year. My two brothers, my sister and our families including our children and now our children’s children adds up to thirty something. So no one person carries the load, we all cook and contribute to the harvest table. All but seven or eight were able to join in this year. We are gradually figuring out how to do Thanksgiving since our parents, who always hosted the lot of us, left this earth a few years ago.

In the coming weeks, many family trees will be decorated with garlands, lights and other Christmas accoutrements. Let us not forget what the Christmas holiday is really all about – the one who gave us life and will give life to each person added to the family tree in the next generations – our Creator.

To fully appreciate the glorious season of Christmas, yours truly will find time to be silent to honor those who are no longer on Earth with us and the one who created us. Take time to reflect on the wise words of generations who came before us who said such things as “Be like a tree – stay grounded and remember your roots, go out on the limb and enjoy the view.” This wisdom has been passed along with the intent of leaving lessons for those who follow.

As we approach this sacred holiday season, remember there are many people who are alone because their family trees have emptied of living members or perhaps branches of the family tree have broken off for a number of reasons. Let’s be mindful the Christmas holidays are not a celebratory time for all people. What can each of us do to  spread a little TLC ?

Posts from SowtheHeart.com will continue until the 10th of December. Then I will pause from posting until after the New Year to enjoy the glorious season.
