Pioneers in Research
Today I am honoring two freedom fighters. Helen Taussig and Alfred Blalock, cardiologists whose pioneering medical research led to my freedom from ill health. I’d like to say thank you to all people who contribute in some way to make life better for others. Whether it’s through science and medicine or just being a friend and being involved in the lives of children. In helping others, you can make a difference, whether it’s for the big or small.
This blog is brought to you by award-winning author of Gift of a Lifetime: Finding Fulfilling Things in the Unexpected by Sue Batton Leonard.
Sue, I recently watched the movie “Something the Lord Made”, about the work of Dr Alfred Blalock and his colleague Vivien Thomas, which you had recommended in a previous post. What an inspiring movie! I’m glad those medical advances helped to heal you, and that you are here to share your positive and uplifting stories with us.
Oh, thank you Marie. Our library has the movie and I borrowed it once and started watching it and I think it hit so close to home that I found it difficult, so didn’t finish watching it. But it was at a time when I was writing my memoir, so maybe now I could get through it. I may try it again sometime soon. Glad to know that it was so inspiring.
